Paramedical Procedures
Paramedical Micropigmentation Procedures are sometimes know as Medical Tattooing. These procedures are used to help disguise accidental, burn or surgical scarring, and to re-create the appearance of areolas and nipples, as well as hair or eyebrows. Set out below is a brief description of the procedures that Alison undertakes in her role as an Aesthetic Micropigmentation Specialist.
Areola / Nipple Restoration:

For clients following mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. These are very rewarding procedures. Following surgery, the client is left with a breast mound with no characteristics. Discussion with the client regarding colour and position is most important, whether it be to the existing areola/nipple, or in the case of bi-lateral mastectomy, choosing size as well. Symmetry and balance are of equal importance. In most cases, this is a 'two-step' procedure, with the client returning some 4 - 6 weeks after the initial treatment for a 'colour top-up' to ensure that the pigment(s) have taken evenly. Without doubt, these particular procedures have enormous psychological benefits with the client experiencing a return of personal confidence and feminity after a protracted absence!

Scar Camouflage:

Individually blended pigments are introduced into the scar to both camouflage and to blend in with the surrounding skin. This treatment can be very effective as it takes away the 'bright, white' look of a healed scar and the shiny appearance. Scar tissue can be unpredictable when retaining pigment, so clients should be prepared to have more than one appointment to achieve the desired results. This type of procedure has a much more longer-lasting effect than the use of camouflage creams, that may only last for a few days.

Breast Flap Camouflage:

This procedure is an extension to the Areola / Nipple Procedure, where the scarring of the Latimus Dorsi or an abdo flap/tuck are also camouflaged. By assessing the skin on the surrounding breast area, moles and freckles can be simulated, as can the appearance of blue veins, to create an extremely sophisticated camouflage. Once again, as with the Areola / Nipple Procedure, this is a 'two step' treatment.

Scalp Camouflage:

This procedure is particularly effective for clients that have recently undergone hair transplant surgery. To help camouflage the scalp, tiny dots are applied to the donor site scar tissue to simulate hair follicles. The pigment used will have been blended to colour match the client's hair. Additionally, to give the appearance of volume, small dashes can be applied to the scalp in the direction of the hair growth. Older methods of hair transplanting sometimes appeared too uniform. The uniformity can be broken down with this procedure, creating a far more natural and realistic result.
Please note however that this procedure is not suitable in instances of Male Pattern Baldness, as MPB is progressive.
